Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) can markedly reduce withdrawal symptoms.
If you smoke more than 10 cigarettes daily, you will need NRT. There are several choices: gum, patch, lozenge, inhaler, and nasal spray. Ask for expert advice (doctor, specialist nurse, pharmacist) on how to use these products. The dosing should be high enough and the NRT should be used long enough. If you are under 18, you can get a prescription from a doctor or a referral note from a nurse.
Even if you smoke less than 10 cigarettes daily, you still might need NRT – e.g. in situations where the temptation to smoke is big.
If you are over 18, a doctor can prescribe also other pharmaceuticals to treat severe withdrawal symptoms.
